Athletes of the Month - August
New class time coming and a quick note about RSVPing to class
Hey everyone, things keep getting busier (and hotter) here at CFD, and we’re happy to welcome the new Foundations members into our regular classes this week and starting a new one in July! As a result, we will be adding a new class time of 4pm starting next week to accommodate the additional members. We like to keep class sizes smaller to be more manageable and ensure everyone gets the appropriate attention required.
On that note, let me briefly discuss the purpose of our RSVP widget offered to us by WODHOPPER. It allows not only the athletes to see who else they can expect in class (and be able to hold one another accountable!), but it also enables us–the coaches–the ability to have a bit of a game plan depending on how many athletes show up and each person’s unique scalings, based on athletic ability, injuries, ROM issues, etc. The more of a plan we can have in place prior to the start of class, the better experience the athlete gets, so an attendance list ahead of time aids this significantly.
In the near future, an athlete will be unable to RSVP within an hour of the start of class. This doesn’t only help the coach have a game plan for how to flow a class, but it will also ensure that the coach will be there! I can promise you that when I wake up at the crack of dawn and there are zero people registered for a class, I’m not going to hurry out of bed so I can sit at the gym by myself and twiddle my thumbs! I’ve done that before, and it isn’t fun! Please just use the RSVP feature; it takes just seconds and makes our job much easier.
Soon, WODHOPPER will be able to track your max lifts, as well as named WODs, so you can electronically store that information (no more digging through your notebooks trying to remember what your 1RM front squat was from 3 months ago!!). Plus, at some point, we will be capping class sizes. Ensure your slot by getting used to the RSVP widget! These changes are only for the best interest of the athlete. Without these measures in place, the experience of the athlete suffers. When class sizes get too big, the coach is spread too thin. A simple reservation and class size limit can eliminate that outcome altogether!
I hope my reasoning here makes sense to everyone and we can all embrace the new system as it evolves, as it truly is designed by active CrossFitters to make the experience for both the coaches and the athletes easier and better! If many of these features are unknown to you, forgive me for not properly disseminating the information sooner! Sometimes it’s hard to keep track of who has been told what–so here it is!
As always, if anyone has any questions or comments, feel free to email me or post them for all to see. Thanks for your time, and I’ll see you at the box!
